Location: – Houston, Texas, USA Experience: Minimum 2+ Years of Pediatric or NICU ECMO Specialist Experience Employment Type: Full-Time Visa Sponsorship: Not Available (US Work Authorization Required Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric ECMO Specialist to join a specialized rapid-response team at our location. This role involves operating extracorporeal life support (ECMO) systems in critical, life-saving situations for pediatric and neonatal patients. The Pediatric ECMO Program is recognized by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as a Designated Center of Excellence since 2006. Established in 1992, the program is one of the oldest and highest-volume ECMO programs in Texas, supporting approximately 30 pediatric patients annually.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Mandatory Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing Licenses & Certifications Active Texas RN License (or compact/temporary license) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Additional certifications as required by unit or discipline Experience: Minimum 2+ years of prior ECMO Specialist experience Prior experience working with Pediatrics or NICU populations RN Experience Levels: RN I: < 1 year RN II: 1–3 years RN III: 3–10 years RN IV: 10+ years Desired Skills and Experience Registered Nurse, RN, ECMO
Operate and manage ECMO/bypass machines during emergent and critical care situations Deliver safe, age-appropriate nursing care based on patient needs and clinical standards Coordinate and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams for patient care planning Administer clinical decisions aligned with evidence-based practice and professional standards Monitor patient responses and adjust treatment plans accordingly Develop and implement discharge or transfer plans Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program evaluations, and patient-centered outcomes Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Texas Board of Nursing standards Promote patient, staff, and visitor safety in alignment with Memorial Hermann policies Support professional development through ongoing education and competency requirements Serve as a mentor or preceptor to less experienced staff when required Deliver compassionate, personalized care consistent with Memorial Hermann service standards Perform additional duties within scope of practice as assigned
