About the Division of Health Service Regulation and the Nursing Home Licensure and Certification Section: The Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) provides for the health, safety and well-being of individuals through effective regulatory and remedial activities including appropriate consultation and training opportunities and by improving access to health care delivery systems through the rational allocation of needed facilities and services. The Nursing Home Licensure & Certification Section provides regulatory services to nursing home providers so that they can improve the quality of services they deliver through regulatory compliance; resulting ultimately in safe quality care, quality of life, and safety of residents and citizens who utilize nursing home services. The Nursing Home State Surveyor position involves regulatory activities to determine compliance of nursing homes with federal and state requirements through inspections.
**This is a home-based position servicing the Anson, Chatham, Davidson, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond and Stanly counties region.** The Nursing Home State Surveyor (Nurse Consultant I) position involves regulatory activities to determine compliance of nursing homes with federal and state federal and state requirements through inspections.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies: To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following: Strong clinical background, including assessment, care planning and delivery of care. Demonstrated skills in communicating effectively (verbally and in writing). Demonstrated ability to compose technical reports using good grammar. Must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to drive a vehicle, adapt to schedule changes, and travel on short notice. **Must pass the Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within 2 years of hire.** Physical Requirements: Ability to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods; ability to finger/talk/hear/smell; ability to lift luggage (20 - 50 pounds); close visual acuity. Management Preferences: Basic knowledge of nursing home state and federal standards, guidelines, and regulations. Residence in one of the following counties Anson, Chatham, Davidson, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond and Stanly. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience”. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.
Applying laws, regulations, rules, and protocols that have been established by the state or federal government. Making decisions in conjunction with interdisciplinary team members or independently. Completion of survey reports. The Nursing Home Surveyor spends an average of three days per week in nursing homes conducting inspections. Occasionally inspections are required on weekends and night shift. Although management attempts to schedule inspections within a region, the consultant needs to expect overnight stays when the nursing home is greater than 60 miles from their home-base.
