St. Croix Hospice
St. Croix Hospice provides hospice services to patients, their families and caregivers across 80-plus branches and 10 states ā Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Hospice care provides comfort and quality of life for patients with a terminal diagnosis when a cure is no longer an option. The expert St. Croix Hospice team provides specialized care which supports the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of hospice patients, carrying out end-of-life wishes with dignity and respect. St. Croix Hospice expertly manages and bring comfort care to end-stage diseases, wherever a patient considers home. The hospice team includes physician services, skilled nursing, hospice aides, social work, spiritual care, bereavement, music therapy, massage therapy, pet therapy and volunteers. Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance. No St. Croix Hospice patient is denied care based on their inability to pay.
The function of the RN Educator is to provide clinical professional development and education services which support the knowledge and skills required for clinical staff. This role requires current RN licensure in Minnesota. While this is a remote or virtual position, the RN Educator must reside in one of the states St. Croix Hospice operates.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. At least three (3) years of hospice experience, and one (1) to two (2) years of recent experience in nurse education preferred. Required: Current RN licensure in Minnesota and ability to obtain additional state licensures as required. CHPN certified or ability to obtain. Excellent observation, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, critical thinking skills, basic math skills; nursing skills per competency checklist. Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position and/or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order. Able to organize educational programs and orchestrate delivery. Strong public speaking skills. Capable of learning and training staff in EMR
Ensures educational activities are aligned with St. Croix Hospice mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. Adheres to CHAP education standards for all employees. Works with EMR on-line training program to provide training for clinical staff. Displays proficiency in the EMR, Homecare Homebase, and acts as a resource for clinical staff. This includes answering hotline questions on charting and assisting with developing educational material for staff. Has a working knowledge of company electronic resources (Enclara, RxNT, DME Track, Elsevier, Relias, Policytech, freshservice, etc.) and provides education as needed for staff support within these resources. Works in collaboration with nursing leadership, quality assurance and education team to ensure orientation, competency development and integration of new colleagues as well as ongoing development and support for current staff. Develops, plans, and presents educational opportunities/programs that directly or indirectly foster the development and competence of the clinical team. Assists staff in identifying education needs and opportunities required to meet their position requirements. Fosters a positive learning environment which encourages continuing education. Assists the education team in introducing education department for new hires, being a resource during onboarding/orientation process, and gathering feedback on orientation to improve processes as needed. Uses an evidence-based approach to identify opportunities for improvement and facilitates the initiation, adoption, and adaptation to change. Acts as both a formal and informal consultant for the integration of new learning into clinical practice and serves as a resource for the clinical team in identifying problems and providing educational resources. Models professional behavior for all staff. Maintains clinical competence related to hospice. Integrates ethical principles into all aspects of practice. Works in partnership with education department team members to answer calls and emails in the Clinical Operations queue. Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of educational activities to ensure they maintain and enhance professional development which promotes the delivery of cost-effective high-quality healthcare. Works collaboratively with the Director of Education to identify training needs and prioritize educations in house and to external agencies. Works as part of the education team to plan, deliver, evaluate, and audit educations and trainings offered by St. Croix Hospice. Performs other related duties as assigned.
