The Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), Bureau of Health Services (BHS) is recruiting for a Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as Healthcare Facility Surveyor to help ensure Wisconsin residents receive top quality care. This position: Works remotely and must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet. Works a flexible schedule with the option of four 10-hour workdays. Requires approximately 55% statewide travel. Overnight stays will be required. Works primarily in the Southeast region of the state, but is required to travel throughout the state. Salary Information: The starting salary is between $36.35 and $40.45 per hour (approximately between $75,600 and $84,100 per year), depending on experience, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in the Nursing Consultant 1 classification and are in pay schedule and range 11/04. Job Details: All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice. DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. Must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy which requires a valid driver’s license, minimum two years of driving experience and must be 18 years of age or older. Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions: three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years, an OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months, or suspension or revocation of the driver's license. All appointees will be subject to DHS' flu-shot policy.
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following: Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Eligibility means your application is currently in progress with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services or you currently hold a license in another state and are eligible to obtain a license in the State of Wisconsin. Must be licensed in Wisconsin by the time of appointment. Experience conducting patient assessments (e.g., care planning, proving patient care, education, etc.,) OR conducting investigations (e.g., interviewing, observing, analyzing information, & writing reports based on findings, etc.). Experience writing reports, correspondence, legal documents, or other professional documentation based on research or investigation findings. Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following: Experience working as a registered nurse in an acute care setting (e.g., hospital, psychiatric hospital, dialysis facility, home health agency, hospice, etc.). Experience interpreting and applying Federal or State healthcare regulations and/or researching and implementing best practices in a healthcare setting. Experience being involved in the healthcare survey or regulatory review process (e.g., preparing for a survey, conducting a survey or conducting a complaint investigation, reviewing investigation reports, implementing action plans, etc.). Conduct statewide on-site surveys and associated follow-up activities of hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers (ASC), end-stage renal dialysis facilities (ESRD), home health agencies (HHA), hospice agencies, rural health clinics (RHC), outpatient therapy providers (OPT), personal care agencies or other non-long term care facilities for relevant state licensing and federal Medicare certification compliance. Conduct investigations into complaints filed against non-long-term health care providers. Review health facility policies and procedures during on-site surveys. Review facility practices which will require a broad understanding of and ability to research current nursing and other healthcare related standards of practice. Write detailed reports of survey and investigation findings. Assist with development of policies and procedures based on professional skills and experience through research of current nursing standards and best practices. Provide professional nursing guidance to Bureau management on nursing standards of practice and survey protocol in order to respond to requests from consumers and other partners.
